Shelly has turned the wall switch into a touchscreen — and today there isn't one Wall Display but four: the original 4", the X2 and X2i at 6.9", and the 10.1" XL. They look alike, but they're not interchangeable. Here's the honest comparison so you pick right the first time, including the one detail that causes the most confusion.
Four sizes, four panels
All four fit a standard wall box, replace a light switch, carry a built-in relay and control your whole Shelly ecosystem. The differences are screen size, sensors, processor and a few extras:
- Wall Display (4"): the compact one. Built-in 5A relay, built-in temperature, humidity and lux sensors, WiFi + Bluetooth, under 1 W.
- Wall Display X2 (6.9"): a large screen, built-in relay, lux sensor and energy monitoring of your Shelly PM devices.
- Wall Display X2i (6.9"): the newest, Gen4 platform — quad-core, Wi-Fi 6 dual-band, an interchangeable power base and touchless gesture wake.
- Wall Display XL (10.1"): the large-format one — 5A/1500W relay, four physical quick-action buttons, audio output (Bluetooth or Sonos) and a proximity sensor.
Before you buy: temperature and humidity sensors
This is the detail that catches people out. All four panels can display room temperature and humidity, but not all of them measure it themselves:
- Wall Display (original): has built-in temperature, humidity and lux sensors. It reads the room on its own.
- Wall Display X2: has a built-in lux sensor; temperature and humidity come from the BLU H&T included in the pack.
- Wall Display X2i and XL: according to Shelly's own support, these do not include an internal temperature or humidity sensor. They need an external sensor (a BLU H&T) to show those values.
That's exactly why we sell the X2i and the XL bundled with a BLU H&T: without one, the panel can't show the room's temperature or humidity. If measuring the room on its own matters to you and you want the tightest price, the original Wall Display is the only one that does it built in.

- Wall Display (4"): the most compact and best value, and the only one with built-in temperature and humidity. Great for a bedroom, hallway or a second room.
- Wall Display X2 (6.9"): the jump to a large screen with room for up to six favourite devices, plus energy monitoring of your PM devices.
- Wall Display X2i (6.9"): the newest and most future-proof — a quad-core processor for snappy response, Wi-Fi 6 dual-band, an interchangeable power base (a 5A relay base is included, and a 2-output base is sold separately) and gesture wake so you can bring it to life with a wave.
- Wall Display XL (10.1"): the statement piece. A big HD touchscreen, four physical buttons for app-free control, audio output for a speaker, and presence detection. At home in a living room, entrance or a hotel room.

Do I need a hub?
No. They connect to your Wi-Fi and work with the Shelly Smart Control app or Home Assistant, no separate hub required. They can also act as a Bluetooth gateway for your BLU sensors.
Do they fit a standard wall box?
Yes, all of them are designed to replace a light switch in a standard box. The XL, being 10.1", takes up more wall surface — plan its position.
