The Shelly Pro 3EM-3CT63 shares electronics with the Pro 3EM, so many questions are common to both. But its combined clamp brings two questions of its own that are worth resolving before buying, not after.
The number-one question: the 9 millimeters

The 3CT63's conductor opening is Ø9 mm. If your phase cables don't fit through it, this model is no good for you, and there's no in-between solution.
The common mistake: confusing the conductor's cross-section with the outer diameter. A 16 mm² cross-section cable is around 8 mm in outer diameter with insulation, so it fits tightly. From 25 mm² up it usually won't fit anymore.
Measure it with a caliper on the actual cable, with its insulation on.
The second: 63 A or 120 A

The current limit overrides any other consideration. If your service exceeds 63 A, the 3CT63 is ruled out no matter how much you like its size or the Modbus.
A normal three-phase home in Spain usually doesn't exceed that figure, but check your contracted power before deciding.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the Pro 3EM's clamps on this unit?
No. Each meter is calibrated for its current transformer. The 3EM uses 120 A CTs and this one uses the 3CT63 exclusively.
How does the clamp connect to the meter?
Via three 2-pin MX3.0 connectors. Pay attention to the color code (red and black) so each phase reaches its corresponding input.
I get negative readings without having solar
The clamp is fitted the wrong way round. Respect the K → L marking, which indicates the direction of the primary current flow. It's the first point Shelly's own documentation recommends checking.
Does it work for single-phase installations?
Yes. Although the name suggests otherwise, it supports single- and three-phase wiring. That said, if you only have one phase you're probably better off with a Pro EM-50.
Can it cut loads?
Not on its own: it has no built-in relay. You need the Shelly Pro 3EM Switch Add-on. That interface is at high voltage while the unit is powered, so always connect it with the power off.
What does Modbus add over MQTT?
Modbus is the standard of industrial automation and building management systems. If your installation already has a BMS or SCADA, it saves you intermediate gateways. For domestic home automation like Home Assistant, MQTT is still more convenient.
How much history does it store?
Up to 60 days at one-minute resolution, exportable to CSV and JSON. It's more than the Pro 3EM, which specifies at least 45 days.
Why does it show power but not add energy?
Because of the minimum-load threshold of 30 VA per channel. Below that figure the unit shows the power but doesn't accumulate it in the statistics, so noise doesn't clutter the data. It's the intended behavior, not a fault.
Do I need 500 W for it to work?
Not to measure. Those 500 W per channel are the minimum load needed to run the channel-by-channel calibration, which is a one-off operation.
What accuracy does it have?
1% between 2 and 63 A, 2% between 1 and 2 A, and 5% below 1 A. Class B in active energy.
I get a phase-sequence error
It means the order of zero crossings isn't A → B → C. It's almost always two phases swapped in the panel. Check that each phase is on its terminal and that each clamp input measures its corresponding one.
